-
A written waiver is provided
-
It has been discussed and approved directly with Ms. Crystal
-
It is determined that the teen is trustworthy and responsible in a large group setting in the woods
This policy is handled on a case-by-case basis to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
My child has a hard time concentrating, is this a good place for them?
🌿 “Children cannot bounce off the walls if we take away the walls.”
This old saying beautifully captures the heart of nature school philosophy.
Children are naturally wired to explore, move, and play freely. When we remove the walls and allow time for unstructured outdoor exploration, we’re not just giving them space to run—we’re supporting their social and emotional regulation and nurturing healthy development for life.
At Crystal’s Nature School, we honor this need by providing a safe, natural environment where children can connect with the world around them—and with themselves.
Where will we use the bathroom?
🚻 Restroom Facilities
We will make use of available trail toilets, which are typically located at trailheads during our sessions. Some rural locations will not have bathrooms, Please be aware of this.
Is this an equivalent to Public Education?
📚 Accreditation and Educational Approach
While Crystal’s Nature School is not accredited by the State of Wisconsin, this does not mean that your child will miss out on valuable learning.
Our program is designed to complement traditional education—similar to a co-op, an extracurricular activity, or an enriching addition to your homeschool experience.
We provide meaningful, hands-on, nature-based learning that supports your child’s growth in unique and impactful ways. This can be used to meet the Wisconsin's Homeschool Requirments.
What if the Weather is bad?

Please dress your child appropriately for the weather to keep them comfortable and ready to explore!

What if there's an accident?
🩹 Safety and Emergency Preparedness
-
I am trained in CPR and First Aid and will always carry my cellphone and a fully stocked first aid kit during all sessions to ensure prompt response in case of an emergency.
-
All activities are supervised closely, with ratios designed to maintain safe oversight of all scholars.
-
We conduct a safety briefing at the start of each session, covering forest safety, boundaries, and appropriate behavior to minimize risks.
-
In the event of a medical emergency, I will provide immediate care and contact emergency services if necessary.
-
Parents or guardians will be contacted immediately if an incident occurs requiring further attention.
-
Allergies, medical conditions, and emergency contact information are collected prior to enrollment to prepare for individual needs.
-
Weather conditions are monitored, and sessions may be modified or canceled for severe weather to ensure everyone’s safety.
Your child’s safety and well-being are our highest priorities while fostering a fun and engaging learning environment.
Does everyone need their own membership?
👶 Membership Requirements for Young Children and Caregivers
Children aged 0–3 years do not need a membership to participate.
However, because we are lifelong learners, all adults caring for young children are required to hold a membership to be part of the group.
To best support your family’s unique needs, we offer four different types of memberships, including a family membership designed to include everyone.
How much of our day will be spent outdoors?
At Crystal’s Nature School, we are committed to immersive, outdoor-based learning—which means that the entirety of each session is spent outside.
Unless weather conditions are deemed unsafe (per our weather policy), we will be outdoors for the entire 3-hour session, including:
-
Free exploration time (1 hour 15 minutes)
-
Small group discussions and hands-on activities
-
Creative art and journaling time
( Our winter classes might be shortened as we get into our first winter session) TBD
Nature is our classroom, and we believe that consistent time in the natural world supports physical, emotional, and cognitive development.
Please dress accordingly and be prepared to experience all types of weather and wonder!
